Linking Financial and Human Resources to Community Needs
Resource ministries include both local and national organizations. Local organizations, such as the Lowcountry Interfaith Coalition, seek community collaboration to improve ways of providing for human needs. National organizations, such as Community Foundations and the United Way, have multiple affiliates in South Carolina and serve primarily as conduits linking financial and/or human resources to a wide spectrum of community needs. They offer ways for people to make financial contributions to tax exempt charitable organizations involved in community services, including: food, shelter and housing, counseling, education, health, youth development, senior citizens, the arts and humanities, religion, conservation and the environment, disaster response, disaster recovery, disaster rebuilding, neighborhood and community development, historical preservation, animal welfare, etc. In addition, resource ministries offer opportunities for people to volunteer and contribute goods and services to their neighbors in need. For example, the United Way "211" Hotline and websites offer ways for people to both give and get help. |
