Helping Disaster Workers and Victims and People Serving Far from Home

Disaster, maritime, and military ministries help people who are facing or recovering from a situation brought on by crime, accident, and natural disaster; arriving at our ports as seafarers; and serving in our military.

In South Carolina, most communities have professional emergency response organizations available to help people when such disasters strike, e.g., local police and fire departments, emergency medical teams, and utility companies. Disaster ministries care for these emergency workers as well as the victims. To serve in some disaster ministries, volunteers receive skill training at no cost.

Port cities like Charleston receive thousands of seafarers each year who serve on cargo and container ships. Due to their work, many are separated from their families for a year or more. Maritime ministries care for these seafarers in many ways for the few hours that their ships are loading and unloading cargo.

Many men and women are deployed defending US vital interests overseas. Military ministries find innovate ways of showing our care, concern, and compassion for these brave military service members who are separated from their families for months at a time in some of the world's most dangerous areas.
