The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has 164 member churches and the Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) (LCMS) has 18 member churches in South Carolina.

Both ELCA and LCMS districts/synods and congregations perform social ministry work through the Lutheran Services in America (LSA), the largest human services organization in the US. They provide a range of services, from health care to disaster response, from services for children and families to care for the elderly, from adoption to advocacy.
