Righteousness

Within South Carolina, the Union of Reformed Judaism has nine synagogues, United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism has four synagogues, Orthodox Union of Judaism has one synagogue, Unitarian Universalist Association has 11 congregations,Buddhists have 10 centers, Muslims have six Islamic centers, Hindus have two temples, Baha'i have one house of worship, and Mormons have one temple.

Jewish congregations have social action committees to eradicate poverty, enhance social justice, respond to catastrophic occurrences, and pursue environmental initiatives. Unitarian Universalist congregations work in a wide variety of social ministries including AIDS, environment, gay/lesbian/bisexual, healing, legal, music, counseling, psychotherapy, peace, religious education, and social justice. Buddhists espouse compassion for all human relationships. Muslims pay the "zakat" which is a purification tax for the support of the poor. Hindus place equal value on all human relationships and consider all living creatures to be sacred. Baha'i emphasize social responsibility and advocate peace and social justice. Mormons require extensive welfare work by their members on behalf of the needy.
