Seek and Serve Christ in Others
Within South Carolina, the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina has 76 churches, missions, and chapels; the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina has 63 churches and missions; the Reformed Episcopal Church, Diocese of the Southeast has 33 churches, the Anglican Catholic Church Diocese of the South has 4 churches; and Anglican Church in America has no churches. The mission of the Episcopal Church is to seek and serve Christ in others by teaching, working, and living according to Christian beliefs; and to do that within the Episcopal tradition, living in cooperation and harmony with every other Christian denomination. Individual Episcopalians can pursue this mission through Education for Ministry (EFM). The University of the South offers EFM at several locations throughout South Carolina to inform people about the basics of the Bible, church history, and theology; and help them discern their personal call to ministry and mission. In addition to domestic and world mission of Episcopal Relief and Development, mentioned below, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) nation-wide conduct an annual program called United Thank Offering (UTO) in which members of individual parishes pool their coins, collected by each family in little blue boxes, each Fall. The resulting UTO Fall Ingatherings fund more than 100 grants worldwide for about $2.5 million clearly demonstrating Christ's miracle of the loaves. In 2006, the Diocese of South Carolina collected over $27,000. The Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina's Department of Social Ministries sponsors this website.
